Environmental Health


Minor Courses

Fifteen (15) hours in Health Sciences course work is required to fulfill the requirements for the minor. 

Required Courses

HSC Courses

Two courses are required within the Health Sciences department:

  • HSC 145 - Environmental Health Practice
  • HSC 156* - Environmental Health in the 21st Century: Meeting the Global Challenge
  • HSC 249 – Environmental Toxicology
  • Or HSC 258.01 - Epidemiology

Outside Courses

Three courses are required outside of the Health Sciences department:

  • CHE 140* - General Chemistry I
  • CHE 141 - General Chemistry II
  • One of the following:
    • MAT 119 - College Algebra
    • MAT 118* - Elementary Mathematical Modeling for Applied Sciences and Technology
    • MAT 145* - Calculus I
  • For students taking HSC 249, CHE 220 and KNR 182 are the prerequisites
  • For students taking HSC 258.01, BSC 160 or 260 is the prerequisite

* General Education options

Elective courses

Six (6) hours of elective coursework is required from among the following courses. 

  • HSC 248 - Occupational Health
  • HSC 249 - Environmental Toxicology
  • HSC 252 - Water and Wastewater Control
  • HSC 254 - Control of Institutional Environments
  • HSC 257 - Air Quality and Pollution Control
  • HSC 258.01 - Epidemiology for Environmental Health
  • HSC 322 - Pollution Prevention
  • HSC 350 - Food Protection
