The Environmental Health (EH) Program at Illinois State University develops professionals who work to ensure public and environmental health. The Environmental Health Program offers both a major and a minor. Environmental Health focuses on the assessment, control and prevention of biological, chemical and physical hazards in our environment that may lead to human health problems or environmental damage.

EH prepares students for professional careers in three primary (informal) tracks:

1. Public Health

2. Occupational Health (Industrial Hygiene)

3. Environmental Protection

These three fields may also be combined for a career in Institutional Health. As we say in the Environmental Health Program: "If you care about protecting our health and environment, make it your career!"

Graduates receive a Bachelor's of Science (B.S.) degree in Environmental Health. The Program is fully accredited by the National Environmental Health Science Protection Accreditation Council (NEHSPAC). ISU is the only undergraduate EH Program in Illinois recognized by Association of Environmental Health Academic Programs (AEHAP). Unlike graduates of other majors, graduates from our program are immediately eligible to take the following certifications:

• State of Illinois Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner (LEHP) examination
• National Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) examination, administered by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA)

Other professional certifications available to experienced environmental health professionals include, but are not limited to:

• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
• Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP)
• Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

The Environmental Health Program is also accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC).
