Admission to Health Promotion and Education

Thank you for your interest in joining our community! Illinois State seeks a highly motivated, academically well-prepared, and diverse student body. Please review the following admissions information carefully. New freshmen, new transfer students, and internal transfer students (current Illinois State University wanting to change their majors) desiring admittance to the Heath Promotion & Education program must meet the admission requirements established by the University.

New Students

Please review guidelines and projected application deadlines found on the Office of Admissions Web site. Priority consideration for admission will be given to outstanding students whose applications are complete and postmarked during the priority filing period for the term for which they are applying. Applications postmarked during the priority filing period may have an advantage when space is limited.

Transfer students should schedule an appointment with the departmental academic advisor for more information.

Current Students

To apply for a major or minor in Health Sciences, current ISU students go to My Illinois State and find the "Apply to Your Major" link on the Academics tab.

Those students wishing to be admitted into the School Health Sequence must apply and be admitted into the University Professional Studies program (see Teacher Education Admission and Retention in the Undergraduate Catalog).

Internal transfer students who wish to change their major or minor to Health Promotion and Education must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Those who are specifically applying to the minor must also have a declared major in a Teacher Education discipline and a minimum of 3 semesters available to complete the course sequence.
