Thank you for your interest in joining our community! Illinois State seeks a highly motivated, academically well-prepared, and diverse student body. Please review the following admissions information carefully. New freshmen, new transfer students and internal transfer students (current Illinois State University wanting to change their majors) desiring admittance to the Health Information Management On-Campus sequence must meet the admission requirements established by the University and the Department of Health Sciences.
Please review guidelines and projected application deadlines found on the Office of Admissions Web site. Priority consideration for admission will be given to outstanding students whose applications are complete and postmarked during the priority filing period for the term for which they are applying. Applications postmarked during the priority filing period may have an advantage when space is limited.
Transfer students students should schedule an appointment with the departmental academic advisor for information.
To apply for a major or minor in Health Sciences, current ISU students go to My Illinois State and find the "Apply to Your Major" link on the Academics tab. Internal transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.25 to be considered for the HIM On-campus sequence.
Preference is given in admission decisions to those candidates who have also completed, with grades of C or higher, Anatomy & Physiology I, Anatomy & Physiology II, and Medical Terminology. Admission into the HIM On-campus sequence is limited and competitive. Meeting the minimum or preferred admission criteria is not a guarantee of admission to the major due to limited space.
Students will be required to pass a criminal background check and drug screen prior to placement in professional practice. Students will also be required to provide evidence of a Hepatitis B vaccine series for professional practice placement.
