Admission to Medical Lab Sciences

Thank you for your interest in joining our community! Illinois State seeks a highly motivated, academically well-prepared, and diverse student body. Please review the following admissions information carefully. New freshmen, new transfer students, and internal transfer students (current Illinois State University wanting to change their majors) desiring admittance to the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program must meet the admission requirements established by the University, as well as by the Department of Health Sciences.

New Students

Please review guidelines and projected application deadlines found on the Office of Admissions Web site. Priority consideration for admission will be given to outstanding students whose applications are complete and postmarked during the priority filing period for the term for which they are applying. Applications postmarked during the priority filing period may have an advantage when space is limited.

Transfer students students should schedule an appointment with the departmental academic advisor for information.

Current Students

To apply for a major or minor in Health Sciences, current ISU students go to My Illinois State and find the "Apply to Your Major" link on the Academics tab. Internal transfer students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 and a grade of C or better in courses required by the major.

Preference will be given to applicants who have completed, with grades of C or higher, the following pre-requisite courses, or their equivalents: BSC 197, CHE 140, CHE 141. Applicants with courses in progress at the time of application will be held in review until grades are posted for those courses.

Evidence of immunity and/or proof of immunization against several viral agents is required for students entering professional practice. See policy outlined in the MLS Handbook for details.
